Our clinics in Ohio generally recommended that all puppies and kittens receive a series of vaccines starting at around 6 to 8 weeks of age. The list of specific vaccines and the timing of the vaccinations will depend on the individual animal and their risk of exposure to certain diseases in Ohio. In general, puppies and kittens should receive the following vaccines:
- Rabies Vaccine is typically given at around 12 to 16 weeks of age, followed by a booster one year later. Please schedule early with clinic.
- Distemper vaccine is typically given in a series of three shots that can be scheduled with clinic, starting at around 6 to 8 weeks of age and continuing every 3 to 4 weeks until the animal is around 16 weeks old. A booster shot is usually given one year later, and then every 3 years after that.
- Parvovirus vaccine is typically given in a series of three shots that can be schedule with clinic, starting at around 6 to 8 weeks of age and continuing every 3 to 4 weeks until the animal is around 16 weeks old. A booster shot is usually given one year later, and then every 3 years after that.
- Leptospirosis vaccine is typically given in a series of two shots that can be schedule with clinic, starting at around 12 weeks of age and continuing 4 weeks later. A booster shot is usually given one year later, and then every year after that which the clinic will schedule and send reminders.
It is important to note that these are just general guidelines and the specific Ohio vaccine schedule for your pet may vary based on their individual needs. It is always a good idea to consult with Driving Park at Flint Animal Hospital veterinarian to determine the best vaccination plan for your pet.
